by Pilar Ethridge

Whether you're disappointed with the service, not impressed with product selection, or moving to a less expensive carrier, you have the option of breaking your mobile phone contract with Verizon Wireless at any time. The process is not as simple as returning clothing items to a department store. In fact, you might have to pay in order to rid yourself of the binding terms. Still, terminating your contract will take just a few minutes.

Visit your local Verizon Wireless location. If you'd like to save yourself a trip to the store, you can dial customer care at *611 from your Verizon Wireless mobile phone or 800-922-0204 from a landline. Press 0 right away to speak with a customer care representative.

Provide account details or a password in order to gain access your account. Then inform the representative that you'd like to terminate your customer agreement.

Inform the representative of your reasons for terminating only if you want to. You are not obligated to do so but the information could help Verizon improve its services overall.

Prepare to pay the final bill for your account. Also, unless you are terminating your Verizon Wireless contract within 14 days of signing it, ask how much you will be required to pay as an early termination fee.

Check your customer agreement to find out the terms of your device return period. If you're terminating the contract 14 days or less after signing it, you'll also need to return your device. After assessing the phone, Verizon Wireless will determine if you are to receive a refund or not.
