Though you cannot change the text message bubble colors with the stock Messaging app installed by default on the Samsung Galaxy S for T-Mobile, you can achieve this goal with one of the highly rated SMS apps from Google Play. Several apps are available that support changing the text bubble colors for your text messages, including Go SMS Pro, Chomp SMS, Pimp My Text and Handcent. When you install an SMS app, the app essentially replaces the stock messaging app on your Samsung Galaxy S.
Go SMS Pro
Go SMS Pro is the most popular SMS app from Google Play. The app was rated as the #1 Messaging App on Google Play, and over 50,000,000 Android owners have downloaded and installed the app. Go SMS Pro is rated with a 4.4 out of 5. Three out of four users have rated the app with a 5. Go SMS Pro includes over 200 themes, 800 emoticons and many extra features, including the ability to customize backgrounds and fonts for text messages. Go SMS Pro is free to download and use.
Chomp SMS is also rated at 4.4 out of 5 on Google Play. The Chomp SMS app’s claim to fame is its ease of use. With a simple interface and straightforward menu structure, users find this app easy to navigate. Chomp SMS includes a wide variety of font colors and styles, ringtones, vibrate patterns and wallpapers. The developers claim that Chomp SMS is a “souped-up” version of the stock Android messaging app, enhanced with all the features you would like to have but are missing in the stock app.
Pimp My Text
Pimp My Text is yet another free SMS app from Google Play. Pimp My Text is rated at 4.1 out of 5 in the Google Play store. With Pimp My Text, you can change the background of the text bubbles of your messages as well as create text messages with image backgrounds. Customize fonts by choosing from a wide array of colors and font styles. Pimp My Text is a top-rated iOS app in iTunes; however, the free Android version does not provide as many customization options as Go SMS Pro. You can upgrade to the paid version for more fonts, colors and textures.
Relatively new to the game is Handcent for Android. Handcent has been a leading SMS app for iOS for several years, and now the app is available for the Samsung Galaxy S and other Android devices from Google Play. Though less than 500,000 users have downloaded and installed the app, Handcent is rated with a 4.4. One of the most notable features of Handcent is that the app enables you to circumvent the attachment limitations set on the stock Galaxy S SMS app. You can send up to 250 Mb of data with an MMS message. The downside is that Handcent offers limited options for customizing the look and feel of your text messages. Handcent is free from Google Play.
