You can easily check the speed of your Internet connection through online ping test tools. These are free Web pages that automatically detect your computer's Internet Protocol address and allow you to run quick connection tests with servers on your area. Speed tests inform you about the true bandwidth on your high-speed Internet connection. The estimated results are given in megabytes per second. You can compare these results with the Internet connections of your friends or at the work place.
Log in to your computer and stop any download or upload process you might have on your computer. This will help you get a more accurate result.
Open a Web browser and navigate to a speed test Web page, such as auditmypc.com, bandwidthplace.com or speedtest.net.
Allow for the Web page to load and click the "Begin Test" or "Start Test" button. The speed test will commence. Allow for both upload and download test to complete without interruption.
Take note of the download and upload speed test results displayed in Mbps units.
