While you may think of MSN as a site where you find news articles or perform Web searches, the company is also an Internet service provider. If a dial-up Web connection fits your needs and budget, you may want to give MSN's service a try. The MSN Dial-up Website promises "unlimited surfing with no hourly charges," and the service features a personal firewall, a spyware monitor and photo-sharing.
Go to the MSN Dial-up website (see Resources) and click on the "System requirements" tab; read the information presented to verify that MSN Dial-up is compatible with your computer. Review the other tabs to learn more about the service.
Click the orange "Get it now" button to launch the enrollment process, then select the button indicating whether you have an MSN or Hotmail e-mail account. (You'll be prompted to create one if you don't.) Click "Next."
Enter your MSN or Hotmail e-mail address and password, then click "Sign in" or fill in the requested information to create an account, then click the "Next" button at the bottom of the form.
Enter your credit card and billing information on the form that appears. Check the box beside "Have your MSN CD sent to the following address" and fill in your shipping address if you prefer to have dial-up software sent to you rather than download it. You will need to provide a shipping address if you select this box. Press the "Next" button at the bottom right corner of the screen.
Review the monthly price for the dial-up service displayed on the next page. Click on the link that allows you to view access numbers; make sure there's a local number for your area so you won't incur long-distance charges when using the service. Use the links provided to read the service agreement and privacy statement. If you are willing to agree to all the terms, type your name in the box provided and click the "Accept and Buy" button at the bottom right of the screen. After your purchase, you will be able to download the MSN dial-up software, or it will be mailed to you on a CD at the shipping address you provided.
